Tanas was born in 1993 in Jeseník and raised in Zlaté Hory. He graduated from the sports gymnasium in Vrbno pod Pradědem and represented the Czech Republic in road cycling. Subsequently, he studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Biology at Palacký University in Olomouc, and a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry at the same university. After finishing his undergraduate studies, he joined the laboratory of Dr. Petr Beier at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. There, he studied the transformations of N-fluoroalkyl 1,2,3-triazoles. After earning his Ph.D. in 2021, Tanas joined the laboratory of Professor Helma Wennemers as an Experientia Postdoctoral and SNSF Fellow at ETH Zurich, where his research focused on the development of new bioorthogonal click ligations. In January 2025, Tanas joined Palacký University as an assistant professor of organic chemistry and chemical biology. His research interests include the development of synthetic methodology, with a specific focus on the “synthesis of functional molecules in living systems”.
